About
FIRST Robotics Competition Team 980 ThunderBots is a 501(c)(3) public charity and competitive robotics team with the mission of inspiring young people to become science, technology, and business leaders.
Dedicated mentors and sponsors work with high school age students from Burbank Unified School District on a robotics challenge set by the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology) organization in which we compete. Team 980 is also the perfect environment to develop important non-technical skills in logistics, marketing, graphic design, communications, finance and business practices. Ultimately, we encourage growth in creativity, problem-solving, strategy, leadership, initiative and teamwork.
Partnering with the BUSD NAF Academies, Team 980 is located in the STEAM lab at Burbank High School, welcoming students from both Burbank high schools as well as 8th graders from the middle schools. We provide real world experience in programming, electronics, machining, construction, mechanical design, business practices, and outreach. Any students with the passion to learn, a drive to create, and a competitive spirit are welcome to join.
What I’m Raising Money For
Running a successful FRC program isn't cheap. All of our mentors are volunteers, but materials and specialized components cost money, as do CAD computers for our Robot Design group and tools of all sizes for our Fabrication and Assembly areas. Your contribution will help us design and build the best possible competition robot while training our students in the fundamentals of Robotics.
Why You Should Give
In the past, Team 980 has relied on corporate sponsors for the majority of our revenue, but those sponsorships are no longer adequate to cover all our expenses. With this campaign, we are asking our students to share with their family and friends why being on Team 980 is important to them and how it will help them achieve their future goals.

Update from peacefulhaven
Good afternoon, As a member of Burbank Team 980 Robotics, I sincerely need your help. For the past 20 years, Team 980 Robotics has provided Burbank youth with unique opportunities to immerse themselves in STEM that no classroom can match. Through Team 980, Burbank students have gained priceless experience in growing fields like robotics, computer science, CAD design, and mechanical engineering. Team 980 students have attended top-ranked schools like UC Berkeley. And most of all, these students have created a tight-knit community unlike any other. But that's all in danger of disappearing. Burbank is by no means an "underprivileged neighborhood", but it could definitely place more focus on STEM. Outside of Team 980, the only STEM resources available are courses at school. And we all know how homework and tests can be a drag. Besides that, Team 980 is the only outlet for students to meaningfully explore STEM. But in this community, our funding is limited. That's why we need the community, those who see value in our peculiar creations, to open their hearts and donate. Even the smallest donation can change the direction of a student's life for the better. Thank you.
