About
Everybody Rowing
Artemis Rowing minimizes the economic and physical obstacles to the highly beneficial sport of rowing. It is our mission to empower students from the diverse Oakland community to pursue excellence in all facets of their lives, through a structured program of competitive rowing and team support. We want to ensure our teams and programs are open to all young people in Oakland and the East Bay and seek to provide an affordable competitive rowing program with high caliber coaching.
To this end, Artemis Rowing provides the following community rowing programs for the East Bay:
Middle School rowing programs, partnering with local community centers and schools to provide access and opportunity for all interested youth
High School/Junior competitive team
Development camps
Beginners Learn-to-Row courses
We offer excellent athletic training while working to empower our students through independence, self-confidence, improved communication skills, team work, challenge and community spirit.
Empowerment
Rowing is physically and technically more demanding than many other activities. Artemis Rowing provides kids from all backgrounds with the opportunity to participate in this challenging and intensely team-oriented sport. Working closely with their teammates to achieve their goals on the water is a key component in building a strong community of athletes who support one another in their individual achievements. The encouraging environment of the team and the support of the coaches, inspiring our athletes to take risks and discover their own abilities, creates a dramatic and lasting impact on their lives on and off the water.
“Rowing to college”
There are approximately 2000 college rowing scholarships available to high school seniors. Rowers are often significantly more successful in school than their non-rowing peers. For motivated Artemis rowers, this sport is an opening for empowerment and success in our communities.
Our coaches have had great success working with junior athletes, many of whom have matriculated to top academic and top rowing colleges. Our rigorous, supportive athletic experience has a tremendous positive impact on our student athletes’ academic achievement.
Oakland Youth
When JLAC, Inc. closed it doors in February 2011, a small number of youth were able to join surrounding clubs. Unfortunately, many were left without. Artemis Rowing provides access to the Estuary and the sport for these and other area youth through a community-based middle and high school aged rowing program. We run affordable rowing programs and offer financial assistance.
What I’m Raising Money For
The organization has been hit hard by COVID - 19 .although in past years donations have been used for equipment purchases this year donations will be used to both purchase equipment and help with any operating needs.
Why You Should Give
Now more than ever the club needs your support to continue to give the youth of the bay area safe options to be physically fit and set goals.
