About

Founded in 2012, our crew has quickly become an Elite competitor amongst our peers. In six short years, our founder and head coach, Cathy Coffman, has taken novice rowers and turned them into champions. Aside from winning numerous Gold and Silver medals, our rowers have discovered a passion for rowing that will last a life-time. The rowing lifestyle takes dedication and grueling training sometimes in cold, wet and windy conditions. Our team is made up of an extraordinary group of students. Not only are our rowers exceptional athletes, they are supportive, intelligent, kind beings that strive to give back to each other, the community by volunteering their time at local food banks and nationally by raising money for Para-Rowing events.

My personal rowing experience began the summer after my freshman year. I decided to come out for the learn to row program and see if this was something that I enjoyed doing. On the first day of practice I was met with intimidating equipment and a new confusing language and was mostly concerned about not making myself look like a fool. As the summer days progressed I fell deeper in love with the sport, the environment, the people, and the feeling that it gave me. I then went to my first summer race and tried to keep up with the more experienced rowers. I was hooked. This was something that I could imagine myself doing for the rest of my life. I have been rowing with the AHS rowing team for three years now. This past fall, 2017, we raised money for the para-rowing community and made our way to Boston to compete in the Head of the Charles. Of all the races I have competed in, this was my favorite. When I was there, I saw the couples in their 70s competing in doubles and winning gold medals. That is how I want my future to be, I want to row forever. I will be attending the University of Louisville for the next four years beginning in the fall of 2018. I will be rowing at a division 1 level at UofL with a family of team mates and coaches that possess a love of the sport as strong as mine. Rowing not only helped me find myself as an individual, but it has also made me incredibly happy.

Please consider donating to the program that changed my life, so that this environment can inspire more young athletes to push past the "impossible" and reach goals that they don't even know they have yet.
