We're raising money for the
Youth Support Program
fundraiser led by
Youth Support Program
The Youth Support Program (YSP) is a unique mentoring and enrichment class program that recruits and trains UC Berkeley volunteers to serve as mentors and teachers to students at Willard Middle School. The YSP mission is to provide a nurturing environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and behaviorally. To accomplish this, we train our mentors and teachers to help students achieve in school, improve their leadership skills and self-esteem, develop cultural sensitivity, and learn civic responsibility through safe and fun program activities.

What I'm Raising Money For
The Youth Support Program is raising money to send our volunteers and their mentees to the Oakland Museum of California. The Oakland Museum of California tells California's story through art, history and natural science. We hope that this multidisciplinary approach to the history of our state will appeal to the young minds of Willard Middle School by allowing them to choose which parts of the exhibit they would like to focus on during their visit. Our goal is to raise enough money to pay for the entry and transportation of approximately 50 mentor/mentee pairs.
Why You Should Give
Our program values the education of today's youth on their own community, and by visiting a local museum of our state, the students will learn more about the history of California than they ever would from a plain old textbook. This field trip will provide an opportunity for Willard Middle School's students to visit a museum they normally wouldn't know about, learn in a more experiential, emotional way, and take pride in where they come from. Also, it will be an amazing opportunity for mentors to bond with their mentees, as they will be able to learn new things and build memories together. We hope that the experience of participating in the fundraising process will inspire and empower the students in our program, teaching them how good it feels to make an effort and see the benefits of their hard work first hand.
