Help PS 2 Get School Supplies!, the students at PS 2
Organized by Joanna Cohen
"PS 2 is the place where the American Dream begins." So reads the description of our school on insideschools.org, a popular site for New York City school reviews. And it couldn’t be more accurate. Most of our students and their parents are recent immigrants from China. Many of our students start school knowing very little English and having had limited formal education prior to coming to New York City. We are a public school of more than 800 students, ranging from pre-K through grade 5. More than 96% of our students are poor enough to qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

Let's Send the 8th Grade to DC!, Northern Light School's Class of 2015
Organized by 8th Grade Fundraising
Northern Light School has been "Educating the Whole Child" for 25 years. Let's Send the 5th Grade to Camp!, Science Camp for Georgia Brown's grade 5
Organized by Nancy, Mike and Evan Swettenam
We’re working to help send all 76 of Evan’s 5th grade classmates to science camp at Camp Ocean Pines in Cambria, CA for four-days and three-nights. Due to deep state budget cuts, our school district no longer has funding for this camp. Georgia Brown Elementary has a high poverty rate with 61% of the students qualifying for free and reduced lunches. Less than 10% of the parents can pay the full cost of camp. Despite living only 30 minutes from the coast, many of Evan’s classmates have have never seen the ocean. Their experiences have been limited to a small community of people in Paso Robles. They have not been able to experience the inter-connection of people, plants, and animals. Going to science camp will change this. Because Georgia Brown is a dual immersion school, half of Evan’s class is native Spanish speakers, mostly children of immigrants from Mexico, and half is native English speakers. The school's goal is to build fluency in both languages, as well as build understanding and relationships between children of different cultures and socio-economic status.
