We're raising money for the
Cal Berkeley Lightweight Rowing
fundraiser led by
Cal Lightweight Crew was founded in the early 1970s as an offshoot of Cal's world-renown heavyweight program. Today, they are the only team on the west coast dedicated to training high-performance lightweight rowers, operating as a self-funded university sports club. Rowers train year-round both on land and on the water, and compete as far away as San Diego and Philadelphia.
What I'm Raising Money For
Cal Lightweight Crew travels to regattas as far away as Philadelphia and San Diego to compete with the top universities in the country. In addition, equipment is expensive and must be constantly maintained for maximum performance, and our well-qualified coaches must be paid.
Why You Should Give
Rowers practice six mornings a week from 5AM to 7:30, and continue into a full day of class immediately thereafter. In addition, rowers do land training 3-5 afternoons per week after classes end,. All told, Cal Lights spend between 20 and 25 hours per week training, and it all comes, in the end, down to a mere 6 minutes of frantic, often very closely-contested competition.
